Homes for Native Blue Birds

Recently, old friends and permaculture experts Djubaya and Deborah told us how their kids, Talise and Tymon, learned to blue bird boxes / homes, as an teaching / experiential fundraiser for their Waldorf school.

In true permaculture style, they would “stack functions”: repurposing old wood, skill-building/learning to use tools in the woodshop, creating habitat for blue birds, raising funds for their school and, in the process, educating around native & invasive species. We’ve just mounted three of them near the hay barn and excited to see who comes home to roost.
